QUOTATION: Slavery

Even though you can come and go as you like, and do what you want, you are not free if you are living under the power error of or falsehood, deceit or sin.

QUOTATION: We Must Choose Our Master

Blessed John Henry Newman
We may choose our master, but God or mammon we must serve. We cannot possibly be in a neutral or intermediate state. Such a state does not exist. If we will not be Christ's servants, we are forthwith Satan's; and Christ set us free from Satan only by making us His servants. Satan's kingdom touches upon Christ's, the world touches on the Church; and we cease to be Satan's property by becoming Christ's.

QUOTATION: Slavery

C.S. Lewis
But one of the worst results of being a slave and being forced to do things is that when there is no one to force you any more you find you have almost lost the power of forcing yourself.

QUOTATION: Self-Mastery

To be subjected to our lusts, and to yield to them, is the most extreme form of slavery. To keep those lusts in subjection is the only liberty.

--St. Clement of Alexandria
